Back in 2020, we learned during the pandemic that despite food banks offering great variety of foods, no one knew how to cook a homemade meal! We decided then, that we wanted to offer children especially, the basics of cooking and running a business.
With the help of our AmeriCorps Intern, we developed our Garden to Table Cooking Program! Our goal was to teach children how to obtain their Food Handlers Card, properly work & run a kitchen to then be able to transfer those skills to real life in their homes or obtaining a career in the food industry.
In 2022, we made wonderful connection with the Camp Verde Community Library who were ecstatic to partner with Home for New Beginnings to get this project going!
Since October of 2022, we have been conducting 3-week sessions with two age groups each, where children are learning the basic safety of cooking, how to properly use a knife, food facts and so much more! The children especially love being able to eat their delicious treats at the end of class.
